BLOOMSBURG - Trevor Dubensky's (Milford/Delaware Valley) goal six minutes into the second overtime period led the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team to a 4-3 win over Shippensburg in a Wednesday night Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match-up.
In the first half, Shippensburg took a 1-0 lead when Geoff Bloes scored on an assist by Jim Harkins in the 26th minute. The Huskies turned up the offense during the next five minutes, launching shot after shot until it finally paid off when Josh Prall (Clarks Summit/Abington Heights) connected with Dan Beshore (Mt. Wolf/Northeastern) for a goal.
The Huskies out shot the Red Raiders in the first half 14 to 2, but the score remained 1-1 going into the second period.
Shippensburg's Brad Jaindl broke the tie in the second, giving the Red Raiders a 2-1 advantage with over 40 minutes left to play. However, the Huskies answered back in the 64th minute on a goal by Marcus Valeriano (Oley/Oley Valley) that tied the score.
With 20 minutes to play and the game knotted at two goals apiece, Jaindl scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Bloes to give the Red Raiders a 3-2 lead. Once again, however, the Huskies tied it up. Dubensky scored on an assist from Chris Tomarelli (Oreland/Springfield) to even the score at 3-3 where it would stand at the end of regulation.
The score remained tied 3-3 at the end of the first overtime period.
In the second overtime, Shippensburg's Jon Humerick had two game-saving stops to preserve the 3-3 tie, but with 3:42 to play in the game, Dubensky's goal gave the Huskies the 4-3 victory for their first win of the season.
For Shippensburg (3-4-0, 2-3-0 PSAC), Jon Humerick saved 10 goals on the night while Bloomsburg's Travis Young (Altoona/Altoona Area) and David Leiendecker (Easton/Easton) combined to save nine total shots.
Bloomsburg (1-5, 1-4 PSAC) will travel to West Chester on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game.
